Journalists Yanukevich and Pakalenka recognized as political prisoners
Former heads of the Baranavichy independent media Intex-Press Uladzimir Yanukevich and Andrei Pakalenka have been recognized as political prisoners, reported Viasna.

According to the verdict of human rights activists, the criminal prosecution of Yanukevich and Pakalenka is a continuation of repression against Intex-press, bar24.by, and independent Belarusian media and journalists in general.
The corresponding statement was signed by BAJ, Belarusian PEN, human rights center Viasna, Human Constanta, Legal Initiative, and Lawtrend.
On February 26, the Brest Regional Court found both guilty of "treason against the state" (Article 356 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced Uladzimir Yanukevich to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of 3000 basic units, and Andrei Pakalenka to 12 years of imprisonment and a fine of 1000 basic units.
The trial, which began on February 3, was held in a closed session, and the essence of the charges brought is still unknown. It is only known that both were accused of "treason against the state".
