He was exchanging dollars and British pounds sterling for rubles. The cashier gave him 600 rubles more. The man counted them, checked the receipt, and left. Later, the cashier looked around and contacted the police, Minsk-news reports.
The man again traveled from Baranovichi to Minsk, to the Central District Department of Internal Affairs, to give explanations regarding this incident. He returned the extra money, but a criminal case was initiated against him for fraud.
— The accused is employed as a driver-forwarder in a private company, married, has three minor children dependent on him, and has no prior criminal record. He has been charged with obtaining property by deception (fraud), that is, committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code, the sanction for which is up to three years of imprisonment. The citizen did not admit guilt — he insists that he had no intention of deceiving the cashier, — noted Viktor Shubich, Deputy Prosecutor of the Central District.
A measure of restraint in the form of a non-leave undertaking and proper conduct was applied to the man.
