Trump announced that US troops may start escorting tankers in the Strait of Hormuz
Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social network that he instructed the US Development Finance Corporation to start providing political risk insurance and financial security guarantees "at a very reasonable price" to all maritime trade passing through the Persian Gulf.

"This service will be available to all shipping companies. If necessary, the US Navy will start escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz," Trump stated.

The Strait of Hormuz is the only outlet for oil exports from the Persian Gulf countries. Up to a third of liquefied natural gas and almost a quarter of the world's consumed oil are transported through it.
