"With deep sorrow, we announce that the head coach of our handball club, Olympic champion, world champion, Champions League winner — Eduard Koksharov — has suddenly passed away in his 51st year of life. This is an irreparable loss for the entire handball family, a great shock for the global handball community," the club's condolences state.
Eduard Koksharov was born in 1975 in Krasnodar, Russia. He was the captain of the Russian national handball team, a world champion in 1997, and an Olympic champion in 2000.
From 2017-2020, he was the head coach of the Russian national team, coached Macedonian "Vardar", and then "Rostov-Don".
From March 2023, he took charge of "Meshkov Brest" club. In 2023 and 2024, he led the club to victory in the Belarusian championship, and in June 2023, together with the team, won the SEHA League tournament.
