«Evil and Madness». MAGA Activists Begin Demanding Trump's Resignation for Betraying the "America First" Idea
While Republicans in Congress demonstrate almost complete loyalty to Donald Trump, his supporters in the media who actively helped him come to power feel betrayed. During his election campaign, Trump promised to end the "forever wars" in which the US is mired and focus on America's revival. Conservative commentators were also shocked by Trump's threat to destroy "an entire civilization" if Iran does not agree to a ceasefire, and even his attacks on Islam, writes The Moscow Times.

The loudest and longest rebuke to Trump came from the famous interviewer Tucker Carlson, who actively supported Trump and became famous for his interview with another "strong leader" — Vladimir Putin. In a 43-minute monologue on Monday evening, Carlson called Trump's Sunday post "abominable in every respect" and accused him of threatening to commit a war crime.
«How dare you speak to the country like that on Easter morning?» — Carlson stated in his podcast. — «Who do you think you are? You publish a post with profanity on Easter morning.»
Trump wrote on Easter that on Tuesday, Iran would have to endure incredible bombings of power plants and bridges, "all in one package":
«Nothing like this has ever happened!!! Open this f***ing strait, you crazy bastards, or you will live in Hell! — JUST WATCH! Praise Allah.»
One of Trump's most fervent former supporters, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently left the House of Representatives, reacted the same day:
«Every member of his administration who calls himself a Christian should fall to their knees, ask God for forgiveness, stop worshipping the president, and prevent Trump's madness. This is not making America great again, this is evil.»
On Tuesday, after another fiery post from Trump stating that "an entire civilization will perish and never be revived" if Iran does not agree to a truce by his set deadline, Taylor Greene wrote:
«THE 25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has been dropped on America. We cannot destroy an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.»
The 25th Amendment to the US Constitution defines the order of transfer of power to the vice president in case of premature termination of the president's powers or his incapacitation.
Ultra-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who defended and supported Trump for years, also called for Trump's resignation. Jones could not restrain his emotions in his video podcast and called Trump "a man prone to developing dementia" who should be removed from office.
«Sadly, the Trump we all knew and loved is no more,» — Jones stated.
Axios cites other examples of disappointment in Trump among influential MAGA supporters. For example, political activist and conservative publicist Candace Owens called the president a "genocidal psychopath" and demanded that Congress and the armed forces intervene in his policy.
The rebellion extends beyond MAGA supporters who relied on the "America First" principle. Disappointment has also gripped a whole host of podcasters and comedians.
The most popular podcaster, Joe Rogan, called the war with Iran "madness, considering what he ran on in the elections." Comedian Tim Dillon called Trump's "America First" principle "the greatest scam in history." Another comedian, Theo Von, using a word from Trump's post, called not Iran, but the US and Israel "f***ing terrorists."
Conservatives were also outraged by Trump's "civilizational" threats and his outbursts against Islam. Carlson complained that the president wants to use "our armed forces to destroy civilian infrastructure in another country, which means committing a war crime." Furthermore, "no decent person mocks another's religion," Carlson declared, lashing out at Trump for mentioning Allah:
«To mock someone else's faith means to mock the very idea of faith.»
However, although a couple of Democratic congressmen, along with Taylor Greene, called for the president to be declared incapacitated, Republicans in Congress maintain full loyalty to him. As for ordinary Americans, a Pew Research Center poll showed that 35% of Americans trust Trump's policy towards Iran, while 64% do not.
