Israeli soldiers punished for vandalism against statue of Jesus Christ
The incident occurred in a village in southern Lebanon. An Israeli soldier hit the head of an already toppled statue with a sledgehammer, while another photographed it. The images quickly spread online and caused widespread outrage. As a result, Israeli military and civilian authorities had to react to this, writes the BBC.

The Israeli army conducted an investigation and stated that the soldiers' actions contradict the army's rules and values. As a result, two soldiers were arrested for 30 days and removed from combat duty. Six other individuals who were present and did not intervene may also face consequences.
The Israeli side apologized for the incident and reported that the damaged statue has already been replaced in agreement with local residents.
The incident was condemned both in Lebanon and beyond. Religious figures called it an insult to holy sites, and Israeli authorities acknowledged that what happened caused pain to believers.
