Marie-Louise Eta secured her first victory at the helm of "Union". Yesterday, "Union" achieved its first victory under the guidance of a female coach.
The match against "Mainz" in the 33rd round of the Bundesliga was Marie-Louise Eta's fourth in charge of the team. The Berliners won 3:1 thanks to goals in the 88th and 91st minutes.
In the three previous matches, "Union" suffered two defeats and drew once.
With one round left until the end, the Berliners occupy 12th place in the football championship with 36 points and have secured their place in the Bundesliga for the next season.
The bottom three places with 26 points are occupied by "Wolfsburg", "St. Pauli", and in the last round, they will decide who will directly leave the elite division and who will play in the play-off matches. Notably, "St. Pauli" and "Wolfsburg" will play each other in the final round.
Marie-Louise Eta was appointed interim head coach of "Union" in early April after Stefan Baumgart's dismissal. She had previously worked as an assistant coach at "Union" in 2023.
This is the first time a woman has been appointed to the position of head coach in the championships of Europe's top five football countries (England, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France).
Marie-Louise was tasked with keeping "Union" in the Bundesliga.
