«Cyberpartisans» and Silent Crow Group Announce Rosstat Hack, Claim Data on Military Losses
Belarusian «Cyberpartisans» and the hacker group Silent Crow claim to have hacked and destroyed the internal IT infrastructure of Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). According to their statement , they copied about 23 terabytes of information, including data related to Russian losses in the war against Ukraine.
Silent Crow announced the joint operation in its Telegram channel. According to the group, they gained access to a significant part of Rosstat's infrastructure: the central office, regional divisions, and the Main Interregional Center for Processing and Distribution of Statistical Information.
The hackers claim that approximately 25,000 computers came under their control. They also report access to network management servers and virtualization systems including ZVIRT, oVirt, and VMware ESXi.
Among the copied data, Silent Crow lists the electronic document management system, databases containing statistical, economic, and personal information, census materials, internal documents, and data from employees' workstations.
The statement specifically mentions data related to Russia's military losses in Ukraine, including data within Rosstat's systems. The authors did not specify what kind of information this is or for what period.
According to the group, about two terabytes of documents were obtained from a part of the infrastructure designated for "Official Use Only" information. They estimate the total volume of copied data to be approximately 23 terabytes.
«The scale of what happened goes far beyond the compromise of individual servers or user accounts,» the authors of the statement claim.
They report not only obtaining data but also destroying the internal IT infrastructure of the department.
Silent Crow and the Belarusian «Cyberpartisans» have previously announced joint operations. In late July 2025, they claimed to have hacked the IT systems of «Aeroflot».
