Argentine President Javier Milei stated that the day after the 2026 World Cup final would be a national holiday if the national team decided to hold a celebratory event. At the time, he did not yet know the outcome of the final.
"Due to the uncertainty regarding the celebration of the Argentine national team's achievement, I inform the citizens that, depending on which day the players and coaching staff choose for the celebrations, it will be declared a national holiday," Milei wrote on social media yesterday.
It should be noted that in the World Cup final, the Argentine national team lost to Spain 0:1 in extra time. The only goal was scored by Ferran Torres in the 106th minute.
