Armenia plans to apply for EU membership in the near future

Yerevan intends to launch the process of applying for membership in the European Union in the near future, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced today.

Vladimir Putin stated in May that Armenia needs to decide between the EU and the EAEU as soon as possible. In that case, a "soft and intelligent divorce" would be possible, he said.

Pashinyan previously said that a referendum would not be organized before Yerevan's official appeal to the EU with an application for membership and receiving candidate status.
