Man thought he found a good job on an oil platform in Norway, but lost money
A 46-year-old Minsk resident fell victim to fraudsters while trying to find employment abroad.
The man found an advertisement in a messenger for a vacancy on an oil platform in Norway. During the correspondence, "company representatives" convinced him to pay for a number of fake services: living wage, visa processing, insurance, and an employment commission.
The Minsk resident transferred 7200 rubles to the fraudsters, after which communication with them ceased.
Police officers remind of key safety rules when looking for work abroad:
No prepayment before signing the contract.
If an employer avoids official email, video calls, or personal meetings, it's a danger signal.
Excessively high salaries. The promise of unreasonably large sums for work without requirements for experience and language knowledge is used as bait.
Before sending documents and money, always check if the agency has an official license to employ citizens abroad (a special registry is available on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus).
