Tourists Stole a Tent Because They Couldn't Find Accommodation in Minsk
They later wanted to return it, but a criminal case has been opened.
The 28- and 30-year-old men arrived in Minsk as tourists. In the evening, they had drinks at a bar, after which they went to a hostel where there were no free rooms. The foreigners then decided to spend the night in one of the city parks, Minsk-News writes.
On their way, they passed a parking lot on Navavilinskaya Street and began pulling the handles of parked cars. The doors of a Toyota were unlocked. The men entered the car and took a backpack and a bag of belongings.
Among the stolen items were clothes, a phone, a headlamp, a wireless speaker, a tent, a sleeping bag, chargers, towels, and other things. Using the stolen tourist gear, the foreigners settled down for the night under a bush a few hundred meters from the parking lot. They also used a power bank found in the car.
In the morning, the men gathered their belongings and, as they later claimed, decided to return them. However, the car was no longer in the parking lot.
A few days later, the tourists were detained on Zybitskaya Street. One of them, upon seeing the police, tried to escape.
The belongings belonged to a Minsk resident who was going to a motorcycle festival and had prepared the necessary gear in advance, but forgot to lock his car. The damage amounted to 1185 rubles.
The accused fully admitted guilt and repented. They are charged with theft committed by a group of persons. This article provides for up to four years of imprisonment. Both were taken into custody for the duration of the investigation.
