In Novopolotsk, a man who found an old revolver while sorting trash will be tried
In Novopolotsk, the prosecutor's office has sent a criminal case to court against a local resident accused of illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, and carrying of firearms and ammunition, the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office reports .
In the summer of 2026, the man was working at a household waste sorting facility. On the sorting belt, among the trash, he found a loaded Nagant-Smirnsky system revolver with three cartridges. Instead of reporting the find to the management and handing over the weapon in the prescribed manner, the man secretly took it home and stored it among his personal belongings.
The illegal storage of the weapon became known by chance. A domestic conflict occurred between the man and his cohabitant, after which he contacted the police asking for help to remove his belongings from her dwelling. During this process, police officers found the revolver among his belongings. An investigative-operational group was called to the scene, the weapon was confiscated and sent for examination.
The examination showed that the revolver was manufactured in 1926 at the Tula Arms Plant. This is evidenced, among other things, by a stamp with pre-revolutionary spelling. The weapon is fully functional and suitable for firing. One of the three cartridges in the cylinder was recognized as live ammunition.
The man explained that he did not attach particular importance to the historical and legal value of the find and allegedly planned to scrap the revolver for metal.
The confiscated Nagant was recognized as a valuable exhibit and included in the fund of the Department of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations for the Vitebsk region.
A measure of restraint, in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and to behave properly, was chosen for the accused.
