In the USA, a murderer sentenced to life imprisonment escaped from prison
In the American state of Tennessee, the search continues for the fifth day for 28-year-old Jacob Allen Morley, sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. He escaped from prison over a fence and, according to surveillance camera footage, left the premises in a prison uniform, writes the BBC.

Morley escaped on Sunday from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, approximately 145 kilometers north of Memphis. Prison staff learned of his disappearance that same evening. After an urgent headcount of inmates, searches began on the institution's premises.
Later, investigators released a video recording which, according to them, shows the fugitive stealing a service pickup truck from a nearby farm. The stolen vehicle was found on Tuesday in Illinois, approximately 190 kilometers north of Tiptonville. However, Morley himself was not in the vehicle.
Aviation and state highway patrol units were brought in for the search. Morley was placed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's most wanted list. A reward of up to $2,500 is offered for information leading to his arrest.

According to prison documents, the inmate's security level was assessed as low. He was scheduled to be eligible for release only in December 2083.
In June 2025, Morley was found guilty of the murder of his colleague Cody Birchfield, which occurred in 2022. The victim's body was found in a metal box under Morley's house. According to the forensic examination, Birchfield died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Casings found at the crime scene matched ammunition for a pistol found in the accused's home.
As the victim's sister stated in a court declaration, the colleagues became friends when Birchfield taught Morley how to work at a pallet manufacturing company.
In addition to murder, Morley was found guilty of vandalism, falsification of evidence, aggravated burglary, and evading arrest. In May, his request for a new trial was denied.
This is not the first time that the search for Morley has required significant law enforcement efforts. In 2022, during his arrest, police pursued the man all the way to North Carolina.
In early October, another inmate, 69-year-old Gregory Redden, who was serving a 15-year sentence for aggravated armed robbery, escaped in Tennessee. He was recaptured shortly thereafter.
In September, in the same state, a failed attempt took place to execute Christa Pike, convicted of murder. The lethal injection procedure could not be completed, after which Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada resigned.
