Belarus is discussing a draft decree that provides for mandatory hotel certification according to a star rating system. This was reported by Tatiana Smirnova, Head of the Services Certification Department at the Belarusian State Institute for Standardization and Certification, on the "First Information" TV channel.

According to the official, the draft decree has already passed the approval stages and is now with the government. A final decision has not yet been made.
When developing the new system, Russia's experience is being considered, where the certification of accommodation facilities is mandatory. If a hotel does not meet the necessary requirements, the certification body identifies deficiencies and explains what needs to be done to obtain the appropriate category.
A phased introduction of the new rules is envisaged. By January 1, 2028, large hotels with more than 70 rooms will have to undergo certification. By January 1, 2029, this requirement is planned to be extended to hotels with fewer than 70 rooms.
Smirnova noted that the process is expected to proceed without significant difficulties, as preparations for the introduction of mandatory certification have been underway for several years.
Currently, about 600 hotels operate in Belarus, but only 90 of them have received official certificates of conformity to a certain category. Five hotels have five stars, ten have four stars, 44 have three stars, and ten have two stars. Another 12 establishments have the "no star" category. In addition, nine hostels have undergone certification.
Information about the official certification of hotels can be found on the "Kachestvo.bel" website in the "Certified Hotels of Belarus" section. It lists the categories of hotels and the validity periods of their certificates.
