Illegal migrants tried to enter Lithuania from Belarus through a drainage pipe
Two illegal migrants tried to enter Lithuania from Belarus through a pipe under a culvert. However, upon seeing a strong metal gate at the end of the pipe and hearing the approach of border guards, they returned to Belarus, reported the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.

On the morning of October 20, employees of the Kabyalskaya border outpost of the Aransky border detachment noticed, through a video surveillance system, two people approaching from the Belarusian side. At this location, a physical barrier has been installed to prevent illegal migration from Belarus — a protective fence with concertina wire.
The presumed violators approached the pipe through which a stream flows from Belarus. The pipe was laid at this location to prevent water from eroding the embankment, on which the border guards' patrol path runs and the physical barrier is installed.
On the Lithuanian side, the pipe begins approximately one meter from the territory of Belarus and has a diameter of about 2.8 meters. At its exit into Lithuania, a strong metal gate with a lock was installed. It prevents violators from freely exiting the pipe onto Lithuanian territory.
The migrants crossed the stream and entered the pipe. They had metal shears with them and, presumably, intended to cut the gate with them. Border guards from the Kabyalskaya outpost immediately transmitted information about the observed violators to the nearest patrol crews.
The men stayed in the pipe for a little over a minute. Perhaps, upon seeing the strong gate, they realized that they would not be able to cut it with their shears. Additionally, it is presumed that they heard the approach of Lithuanian border service SUVs.
After exiting the pipe, the men returned to Belarus. By that time, patrols from the Kabyalskaya and neighboring Druskininkai border outposts had already arrived on the embankment above the pipe.
Border guards inspected the gate, and to check the surrounding area, they deployed a service drone. No other violations were found.
This year, Lithuanian border guards prevented 1695 illegal migrants from Belarus from entering the country at unauthorized locations.
