In France, riots erupted again after peaceful protests. Almost a thousand people detained
Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of French cities on October 24, protesting against the high cost of living and poor conditions in educational institutions. Most demonstrations passed peacefully during the day, but clashes with police began again in the evening, reports BBC.

According to the French Ministry of Interior, about 400,000 people participated in the protests. Trade unions estimated the number of participants at approximately 800,000.
Around 70,000 police officers were deployed across the country to maintain order. Authorities sought to prevent a repeat of the previous weekend's riots, when buildings were set on fire and shops were looted in various cities.
In Paris, clashes began at the end of a peaceful march. Some participants built barricades, throwing various objects and fireworks at police. Masked people smashed car dealership windows. Police used batons, tear gas, and water cannons.
In Marseille, garbage bins and barricades were set on fire; in Bordeaux, planks were removed from buildings to block the street. In Lyon, police dispersed a crowd with tear gas, which reportedly gathered in an area forbidden for protests.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reported almost a thousand arrests and warned that their number could increase. Two people sustained serious injuries – in Toulouse and Clermont-Ferrand.
However, widespread looting, as seen a week earlier, was avoided.
After the riots on October 17, more than 2,500 people were arrested in France, and a curfew was imposed in several cities. Emmanuel Macron also ordered that only demonstrations organized by recognized trade unions be allowed. Hundreds of people have already received prison sentences for vandalism, arson, and looting.
