A resident of Minsk caught a giant catfish weighing 32.4 kilograms in the Chyzhou Reservoir. The unusual catch happened at the end of October, when the angler and his friend were already preparing to finish their fishing trip.

Aliaksandr shared a photo of the trophy on Instagram. According to him, the last cast of the rod was decisive. The fish took the bait so strongly that the spinning rod bent, and the boat began to be pulled through the water.
The struggle with the catfish lasted about an hour. At one point, Aliaksandr wanted to give up and cut the line: his hands were tired, but the fish continued to resist. However, his friend convinced him not to give up. As a result, the fishermen managed to pull the catfish into the boat.
After taking photos, the men released the fish back into the reservoir.
The Chyzhou Reservoir is an artificial technical reservoir in Minsk, popular among fishermen. In addition to catfish, it is home to bream, roach, crucian carp, common carp, sazan, rudd, bleak, gudgeon, ruff, perch, pike, and zander.
Swimming in the reservoir is prohibited. It is also not recommended to consume fish caught there due to the accumulation of harmful and toxic substances in the water and bottom sediments.
From November 1st, seasonal restrictions on catching certain fish species will come into effect in Belarus. Until March 31st, catching European catfish will also be prohibited. During the cold season, it lies in pits and shelters, where it becomes an easy prey for unscrupulous fishermen. The ban is intended to help preserve the population of this species.
Also, from November 1st to December 15th, catching vendace (Chud whitefish) will be prohibited during its spawning period.
In addition, since October 1st, a ban on catching any fish in wintering pits has been in effect. It will remain in force until April 15th.
