Minsk traffic lights and cameras to be connected by a 55-meter optical ring
Minsk plans to create a backbone fiber-optic network more than 55 kilometers long. It will connect traffic lights, surveillance cameras, and the Central Transport System Control Point. This was reported by the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus.

The new backbone will be laid along the contour of the capital's Second Transport Ring. It will become the basis of an intelligent transport system, which will allow for prompt regulation of traffic lights, reduce congestion, and prepare the city's road network for the implementation of "smart city" technologies.
Fiber-optic cables will be laid to traffic lights to connect cameras and transmit video to the central control point. Road controllers will also be connected to it using a new data exchange protocol.
The ring structure of the network should ensure continuous communication even in the event of damage to one of the cables.
The implementation of new technical solutions is planned to begin in 2027.
