Soligorsk woke up in a pink fog. What was that?

The morning in Soligorsk was truly unusual. Residents of the city began to massively share photos and videos on social networks of an unusual atmospheric phenomenon - a thick pink fog that enveloped the streets, writes Minsk Pravda.

One of the first to record the phenomenon was a TikTok user. "Video without filters. This morning there was pink fog in Soligorsk. In reality, the color was more pink than purple," noted the author of the recording under the nickname @senora_darya.

Emotions in the comments ranged from shock to admiration. "To say I was shocked is an understatement," "I also noticed that it was a pink morning today. Beautiful and unusual," "We had pink too," users shared.

Why was the fog pink? What could be the explanations for the phenomenon?

Meteorologists and physicists highlight several key reasons that could have turned ordinary fog into pink fog.

1. The "morning sunset" effect. This is the main and most likely reason. Fog itself is colorless. The magic begins at dawn when the sun is low on the horizon. Its rays have to break through denser layers of the atmosphere, which act as a giant light filter, "cutting off" cold blue hues and letting through warm ones - red and orange. Dense fog acts as a huge screen that reflects and scatters this pink light throughout the city.

2. Weather anomalies and temperature swings. In winter, pink fog often occurs against the background of sharp temperature changes. When the temperature is significantly higher than the seasonal norm, this contributes to active evaporation of moisture and the creation of a particularly dense foggy "blanket" that perfectly reflects and refracts sunlight.

3. Influence of cyclones. Cloudy and foggy weather often accompanies cyclones. Under certain circumstances - dense cloud cover at the top and gaps at the horizon - a cyclone can create an ideal "projector" for painting the fog in delicate tones.

Is it dangerous?

Experts reassure: if the fog has a pink tint exclusively due to the play of light and weather conditions, it is not dangerous to health. This is a natural phenomenon, not the result of a man-made accident or pollution, writes "Minskaya Pravda."
