According to the company, about 280 kilometers of fence have been built on the Latvian-Russian border, forming a continuous barrier where technically possible. It is also noted that 72 kilometers out of the 99 kilometers of fence erected earlier have already been put into operation.
The Belarusian-Latvian border has a total length of about 173 kilometers and is the shortest of all Belarus's borders.
The company's press release quotes the Minister of Interior of Latvia, Rihards Kozlovskis. He emphasized that the completion of the border fence construction enhances the safety of the country's residents, as Latvia faces pressure from organized illegal migration from the eastern direction.
The head of the Ministry of Interior also noted that the country's main goal is to create the most modern border service on the external border of the European Union.
