A group of enthusiasts is trying to save an old mosaic in Novopolotsk, which is threatened with disappearance along with the school building. The school is planned to be demolished to make way for the construction of another facility, as noted by "Belsat".

It is impossible to completely remove the mosaic from the wall due to the technology by which it was created. Therefore, two very expensive options remain.
The first is to preserve the entire wall with the mosaic, demolishing the rest of the building. This method has not yet been used in Belarus. The second is to cut out individual fragments of the mosaic along with parts of the brick wall, but this will require special equipment.
Enthusiasts propose a more realistic compromise option - to ask builders to cut out at least one fragment of the wall with the mosaic to preserve it in another location afterward.
They are currently looking for funds to carry out such work, as well as specialists who could professionally dismantle and preserve a fragment of the mosaic.
The former School No. 5 of Novopolotsk, whose building at Dzerzhinsky Street, 4 is currently being demolished, existed from 1972 to 2021. In 2021, as part of optimization, it was closed, and students were transferred to School No. 1. At one time, the writer and translator Yakub Lapatka and the poet-bard Siarzhuk Sakalau-Voyush taught at this school, and its graduates included, among others, the well-known hockey players, brothers Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn.
