As reported by Axios, citing its sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi contacted White House representative Steve Witkoff last weekend. The parties discussed the possibility of a personal meeting in the near future.

According to the publication's sources, such actions by Tehran may indicate a desire to reduce tensions with Washington or at least buy time until US President Donald Trump makes a decision on further steps against the Iranian regime.
It is also noted that contacts between Witkoff and Araghchi began during negotiations on Iran's nuclear program last year. They did not stop exchanging messages even after the US struck Iranian nuclear facilities.
