"The traffic police's recommendation is simple: if there is no urgent need, do not drive. If you do drive, be more careful than ever," emphasized the Gomel police.
State traffic inspectors warned: freezing rain forms a thin, almost invisible layer of ice (black ice) on roads and sidewalks, sharply increasing the risk of road accidents and falls.
Road safety officers reminded drivers of important rules for such weather: "Significantly reduce speed and increase distance. Move smoothly, without sudden maneuvers, braking, or overtaking. Be especially careful on bridges and overpasses. Make sure you have winter tires installed."
Recommendations for pedestrians: wear shoes with non-slip soles, walk slowly with short steps, stay away from the roadway, and be highly visible to drivers.
