The conversation is taking place amid disputes surrounding the "Druzhba" oil pipeline. Zelenskyy invited Fico to Ukraine to discuss all pending issues.
On Monday, Slovakia halted electricity supplies to Ukraine due to Kyiv stopping oil transit through the "Druzhba" pipeline.
Last Saturday, the Slovak Prime Minister wrote a post warning of a future halt in supplies.
"Since the beginning of the war, Slovakia has been providing assistance to Ukraine. However, the President of Ukraine does not want to understand our peaceful approach and, because we do not support the war, behaves unfriendly towards Slovakia. First, gas supplies to Slovakia were stopped, which caused us damage amounting to 500 million euros per year. Now oil supplies have been stopped, which entails additional losses and logistical difficulties. Slovakia is a proud and sovereign country, and I am a proud and sovereign Slovak. If oil supplies to Slovakia are not restored by Monday, I will contact the state-owned company SEPS with a demand to stop emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. Only in January 2026, the volume of these emergency supplies, necessary to stabilize the Ukrainian energy system, was twice as large as for the entire year 2025," Robert Fico wrote then.
