Slovenian "Celje", coached by Belarusian Maevsky, will play AEK in the Conference League Round of 16

Today, the draw for the Round of 16 of the football Conference League took place.

Slovenian "Celje", coached by Belarusian Ivan Maevsky, will play AEK from Athens in the Conference League Round of 16.

The other pairs:

  • "Crystal Palace" — AEK Larnaca
  • "Lech" — "Shakhtar"
  • "Samsunspor" — "Rayo Vallecano"
  • "AZ Alkmaar" — "Sparta"
  • "Fiorentina" (Italy) — "Raków"
  • "Rijeka" — "Strasbourg"
  • "Sigma" — "Mainz"

The first matches will take place on March 12, with the return legs on March 19. The tournament final will be held on May 27 in Leipzig (Germany).

Ivan Maevsky, who worked as an assistant coach at "Celje", took over the club at the end of January when Alberto Riera took charge of German "Eintracht".

After 24 rounds, "Celje" leads the league table with 50 points, nine points ahead of "Maribor". In the Slovenian championship, under Maevsky's leadership since the beginning of February, the club has won twice, drawn with "Maribor", and lost once.

This season, "Celje" played in the main round of the Conference League, finished 13th out of 36 clubs, and in the Round of 32, eliminated Kosovan "Drita", defeating them twice.

Last season, "Celje" finished fourth in the Slovenian championship.
