"Six months ago, I met the love of my life — the most beautiful and kind girl in the world, and three months ago I made the biggest mistake of my life — I cheated on her.
This was the worst week of my life. Perhaps many will look at me differently now, but I only think of her. I don't quite understand what I want to say right now, but sports have taken a backseat in recent days. And it's a pity that I can't share this with her. I try to be a good role model, but I did something foolish.
I have nothing to lose. I had a chance at true love, and I ruined everything.
You don't have to forgive me. But if there's any chance at all to tell her how much I love her, even if it kills me in the media live, I'm ready – just to get that tiny chance," the 28-year-old athlete said after the race.
The bronze Olympic medal won by Sturla Holm Lægreid was not his first — in 2022 in Beijing, he even became an Olympic champion. However, this year's bronze was his first individual win, whereas that gold was part of the Norwegian relay quartet. Additionally, he is a seven-time world champion, a five-time silver medalist, and also won bronze once at world championships.
