For inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the historical and cultural value "Dishes from grated potatoes - traditions of preparation and consumption in Belarus" has been proposed.
The traditions of preparing dishes from grated potatoes (primarily draniki, potato pancakes, and babka) have long become a gastronomic brand of Belarus, represented in all six regions, and since 2022 have been included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus (more than 370 bearers from 73 districts have been recorded).
The proposal from the Republic of Belarus will be submitted by the Ministry of Culture to UNESCO by the end of March 2026.
It is believed that this will contribute to expanding information about Belarus as a state that preserves national cultural traditions, as well as increasing the country's tourist attractiveness and developing gastronomic tourism.
