Tourism officials dream of creating a "Golden Ring of the Union State"
Within the so-called "Union State," a large-scale tourist route may be created, presented as an analogue of Russia's "Golden Ring." Philip Huly, Chairman of the Board of the Republican Union of Tourist Industry of Belarus, explained to the Russian publication Sputnik why the "union" tourist information center was decided to be opened not in Moscow, but in Smolensk.

According to Philip Huly, Smolensk is of key importance because most transit routes between Belarus and Russia pass through it. In addition, the Dnieper River originates in the Smolensk region, and the city itself is located approximately equidistant from Minsk, Moscow, Gomel, Mogilev, and Vitebsk.
Huly considers Smolensk a central point and proposes opening branches of such a center in Mogilev or Bobruisk in the future to maintain balance. The main task of the tourist center is to promote the common tourism product of the "Union State," including in third-country markets and remote regions of Russia.
The idea of creating a large tourist "ring" encompassing 11 regions of Russia and Belarus is also being discussed. The route may include Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, Torzhok, Pskov, Veliky Novgorod, Polotsk, Vitebsk, Minsk, Mogilev, Smolensk, and Vladimir. The journey is proposed to be divided into separate segments to make it convenient for tourists to join and complete the route in major cities.
