The actor, best known for his roles in the series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria," died less than a year after his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) became known.

It is an incurable disease that affects the nervous system. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce Eric Dane passed away Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS," his family said in a statement, writes the BBC.
Dane played the role of family patriarch Cal Jacobs in the popular HBO teen series "Euphoria." Before that, he was best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in the medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy."
For the last few months, the actor dedicated himself to raising awareness about the most common form of ALS. The family statement said Dane spent his final days surrounded by friends, his wife, and two daughters.
