Foreign diplomats working in Minsk shared untranslatable words from their languages on Mother Language Day
Asta Andrijiauskienė, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of Lithuania in Belarus, published a post on her Facebook page where diplomats from various countries shared words that are impossible or almost impossible to translate into other languages, particularly Belarusian, with a single word.
“Our native language builds our worldview and connections with people around us. Today, on International Mother Language Day, declared by UNESCO in 1999, we honor the linguistic and cultural richness of the world. Diplomats working in Minsk share with you "untranslatable" words from their native languages — words that do not have direct one-word equivalents in many other languages that would fully convey their cultural or emotional weight and shades of meaning.
