'People's Mujahideen' (Persian: Mojahedin-e Khalq, MEK) is an Iranian opposition organization with Shiite-Islamist and Marxist ideas. Due to previous armed actions and terrorist attacks in Iran and abroad, they were on the EU terrorist list for several years.
150 MEK fighters 'successfully returned to their bases' by Monday evening, the Mujahideen themselves stated.
The fact of the clash and the number of dead was also confirmed by Tasnim news agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The incident was also reported by Al-Akhbar newspaper, considered an unofficial mouthpiece of the Iranian-funded group 'Hezbollah'.
Al-Akhbar called the attack 'one of the most dangerous and complex operations carried out by MEK in Iran with the direct support of foreign intelligence services'. The newspaper hinted that Israeli intelligence 'Mossad' was behind the attack. However, there is no confirmation of this.
