F-16 fighter jet crashes in Turkey, pilot dies

A military F-16 fighter jet crashed onto a highway in the Turkish city of Balıkesir. The pilot died.

The plane crash occurred around 1 AM. The aircraft was on a routine training flight. It crashed onto a section of the İzmir — Istanbul highway. Traffic was blocked.

After the crash, a large fire broke out at the scene. Emergency services are working at the site. The causes of the incident are currently unknown.
