At negotiations in early 2026, Iran informed the United States that it possessed enough enriched uranium to create 11 nuclear bombs, stated U.S. presidential envoy Steve Whitkoff on Fox News.

"At that first meeting, both Iranian negotiators directly told us — without any shame — that they controlled 460 kg of 60% enriched uranium and that they knew this was enough to create 11 nuclear bombs," Whitkoff recalled.
According to him, the Iranian delegation "was proud that they managed to circumvent various control protocols and reach a situation where 11 nuclear bombs were available to them."
Whitkoff also stated that Iranian negotiators declared an "inherent right" to enrich nuclear fuel. "We responded that we have an inherent right to stop you," he added.
