Mikhail Barazna Removed from Post of Rector of the Academy of Arts
The 63-year-old art historian and photographer was dismissed back in October 2025. His position will now be filled by architect Anastasiya Kalasouskaya.

Mikhail Barazna headed the Academy of Arts for 15 years — since 2010. He gained notoriety in 2020 when the BDAA became the first higher education institution to begin expelling striking students.
At one point, there was talk that he would rise to become the Minister of Culture, but it didn't materialize. For the repression against students, Barazna was included in sanctions lists in 2021.
His place was taken by 51-year-old architect Anastasiya Kalasouskaya, who worked at the same university as vice-rector for academic affairs.
