Putin Knew About Planned Attack on Iran but Did Nothing to Prevent It. Why?
Bloomberg claims that the Russian president was aware of the plans for an Israeli and US operation against Iran, but took no steps to support Tehran. There are serious reasons for this.

According to journalists, Israeli representatives hinted to Russian officials about the seriousness of their intentions several weeks before the operation. That is why, sources believe, Moscow limited itself to mere words of condemnation and did not proceed with real actions.
Experts and sources of the publication explain this position with several reasons.
Firstly, Russia has limited capabilities to influence the situation.
Despite the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between Moscow and Tehran in January 2025, this document does not provide for mutual defense, unlike Russia's agreements with some other countries. Also, even after previous strikes on Iranian facilities, the Russian side stated that Iran, allegedly, had not requested military assistance.
Secondly, Russia faces a shortage of resources.
The prolonged war against Ukraine has significantly depleted Russia's armaments stocks. Furthermore, the ineffectiveness of some Russian-made Iranian air defense systems during previous attacks damaged the reputation of Russian weapons.
Another reason cited is Moscow's desire to maintain relations with the United States to achieve its goals in the conflict with Ukraine. According to sources, this could also have influenced the restrained reaction and avoidance of strong statements.
The article also notes that for Russia, the conflict in the Middle East has certain benefits.
Moscow can use US strikes on a sovereign country without UN sanction as an argument to justify its own actions against Ukraine.
In addition, tensions in the region divert the attention of Western countries and reallocate their resources, including armaments, towards the Middle East. This, according to the authors of the material, may be disadvantageous for Ukraine.
Also, rising tensions affect global oil prices. As Russia remains a major oil exporter, higher prices can replenish its budget, including military spending, despite the sanctions imposed by Western countries.
