The farewell to operator and former political prisoner Dzianis Sakalouski will take place in Minsk on March 9 from 10:00 to 13:00 at the address: Minsk district, agrotown Pryluky, Lyasnaya street, 11/19, Reform.news writes .
The funeral will be held at Atolin cemetery at 14:00, and the memorial meal at 15:00. Transport will be organized from the farewell location to the cemetery and the memorial meal for those without a personal car.
This was announced by his daughter, journalist Vasilina Sakalouskaya.
"Please, I ask you to come and support my grandparents. This is the hardest time for them and for me, during which, unfortunately, I cannot be physically present. So if you can be there for me and on my behalf, I will be very grateful. Please pray and think about my dad, so that he finds peace on his native land, in his beloved Pryluky," she wrote on Facebook.
Dzianis Sakalouski worked as an operator at the "Belarus-1" TV channel for more than ten years, and also collaborated with foreign TV channels, including ARD, ZDF, DW, Al Jazeera, ABC, NRK.
In 2020, he joined the strike at "Belteleradiocompany".
After being fired, together with his former colleagues, he worked on creating an independent media platform - the so-called "alternative television", for which he was detained on December 22 along with Ksenia Lutskina in the "Press Club" case. Initially, he was accused of aiding in tax evasion. Dzianis spent 8 months in pre-trial detention center No. 1.
After the pardon of the "Press Club" members, in August 2021, Dzianis's measure of restraint was changed to a recognizance not to leave, but he was recognized as a suspect in participating in a conspiracy to seize power by unconstitutional means.
Until the end of May 2022, he remained under supervision and was considered a suspect under Part 1 of Article 357. After his release, he was forced to emigrate to Germany. He died in Berlin on February 21.
