According to information from Reuters, US President Donald Trump is very likely on the list of nominees for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. This was announced by the secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Kristian Berg Harpviken.

This year, 287 candidates were nominated for the award: 208 individuals and 79 organizations. According to Berg Harpviken, many new names have appeared on the list compared to last year.
Previously, the leaders of Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan stated that they had proposed Trump's candidacy for the award. If this is indeed true, the applications were submitted in the spring and summer of 2025 and are considered valid, as the deadline for submission ended on January 31. However, it is impossible to verify this, as the lists of nominees are kept secret.
Trump himself has repeatedly said that he deserves this award more than anyone else. In 2025, he claimed that after returning to office, he managed to stop at least eight wars.
In January of this year, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado symbolically handed over her Nobel medal, received in 2025, to Trump during a meeting at the White House. The organizers of the award ceremony, however, stated that she remains the only official laureate.
Already in March, Trump stated that he was no longer interested in this topic. He also said that he did not know how the conflict with Iran might affect his chances of receiving the award in the future.
