Eau de Cologne «Sasha» better than Dior Sauvage? Belarusians blind-tested fragrances
A perfume experiment was conducted in the center of Brest. Passers-by on the street were offered to blind-test two scents applied to testing strips. One blotter contained the iconic Soviet eau de cologne «Sasha», which can still be bought in stores for about 5 rubles, and the other — the much more expensive Dior Sauvage.
The survey results were unexpected: city residents mistook the cheap classic for luxury, sometimes called the scent of «Sasha» more appealing and valued it at hundreds of dollars.
When the truth was revealed, the experiment participants couldn't contain their laughter, and the video's author urged everyone not to overpay and to buy the time-tested domestic product. «Didn't expect that from Sasha» — he wrote.
THIS SCENT IS SOMETHING ELSE
A large portion of commentators eagerly mocked the high-end perfumery industry. People noted that this whole situation perfectly demonstrates a simple truth: the absolute majority cannot distinguish luxury or niche perfumes from mass-market products. According to commentators, only professional experts can notice the difference, so there's no point in overpaying for «status symbols» if, in the end, an eau de cologne for a couple of rubles still «smells expensive».
Someone ironically added that true quality is measured only by longevity, and many agreed that brands simply sell a beautiful image, with their cost price not exceeding a few dollars.
Many readers were seriously interested in where exactly they could buy this «elite» perfume «Sasha» right now. The most popular locations where «Sasha» is always available are called the counters of «Belposhta» (Belarusian Post), «Mila» chain stores, and small kiosks.
Some joked that after such a video, the brand's marketers would quickly record a crazy surge in purchasing activity.
