Ukrainian MP Honcharenko Excluded from "European Solidarity" Faction
The Verkhovna Rada faction "European Solidarity", united around former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, announced the exclusion of People's Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko from its ranks. The political force explained this with ideological differences, stating that the deputy's public positions on the end of the war and Ukraine's future security system diverge from the faction's position.

"European Solidarity" noted that due to these divergences, they decided not to continue a joint political path with Honcharenko. However, they emphasized that this does not negate years of joint work, but party unity, in their opinion, cannot be a formality when there are fundamental disagreements about the future of the state.
The faction stated that their initial position remains unchanged: peace should not be achieved at the cost of abandoning what Ukraine stood for and what enabled it to withstand the war. According to "European Solidarity", compromises can be part of the path to ending the war, but Ukraine's independence, its European future, issues of national identity, and the right to independently determine its own security system cannot be subject to compromise.
The reason for the conflict was, in particular, Honcharenko's statements regarding possible negotiations with Russia. On October 2, he published several posts on his Telegram channel, in which, among other things, he called for "reaching an agreement with the Russian Federation". According to him, it is impossible to agree on peace immediately, but one can move gradually — for example, first agree on stopping strikes on ports, and then move on to other issues. He called for "agreeing on everything in the world".
On the same day, "European Solidarity" stated that peace should end the war but cannot mean the capitulation of Ukrainian statehood and identity.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on calls from some people's deputies to cease hostilities and start negotiations with Russia, stated that Ukraine cannot "bend" to Russia, as this would lead to its "breakdown".
Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko is known, among other things, for his consistent criticism of the Lukashenka regime, support for the Belarusian democratic movement, and the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment. At one time, Honcharenko initiated a petition to sever diplomatic relations with Belarus and called for Belarus to be recognized as an occupied territory.
