Turkey and Pakistan will provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia and will promptly deploy their military contingents to the kingdom. This decision was made on October 5 at an emergency meeting of representatives from Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, amid a sharp escalation of the conflict between the kingdom and the pro-Iranian group "Ansar Allah," which controls part of Yemen's territory.

In a joint statement, the meeting participants strongly condemned attempts to attack the holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina, as well as strikes on cities, civilian, and economic infrastructure of Saudi Arabia. However, the document does not specify who exactly was behind these attacks.
This marked the first time in history that the so-called Makkah Pact on mutual defense of the three countries was invoked. The agreement was signed on August 7, 2026, and provides for collective assistance in the event of an armed attack on one of its participants. The principle is similar to Article Five of the North Atlantic Treaty: an attack on one country is considered an aggression against all three.
Global media noted that the official communiqué did not once mention the Yemeni Houthis. It was their massive missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports, Aramco oil company facilities, and important sea lanes that became the main reason for the emergency meeting.
The new military alliance combines significant forces from Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Turkey has the second-largest army in NATO after the United States, Pakistan is the only nuclear power in the Islamic world, and Saudi Arabia possesses some of the largest military resources in the region. However, the exact number of troops that Turkey and Pakistan will send to the kingdom, as well as the specific combat objectives for these units, have not yet been disclosed.
