Putin announced the capture of a city that Russian troops have not even approached
Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian army allegedly captured the Ukrainian city of Sviatohirsk. However, this is not confirmed by any of the main battle maps: the city remains under Ukraine's control, and the nearest Russian positions are approximately 9.5 kilometers away.
Putin announced the alleged capture of Sviatohirsk at a press conference after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.
"Over the past month, 14 settlements have come under the control of Russian troops, including the liberation of Kozacha Lopan, and just yesterday – the city of Sviatohirsk," he said.
Russian state and propaganda media disseminated these words as a report of a real military success.
However, current battle maps show a completely different situation. According to DeepState, Sviatohirsk remains under Ukraine's control. From the city to the nearest territory occupied by Russian troops is about 9.5 kilometers.
Other maps show the same picture. None of them show Russian troops in Sviatohirsk itself or in its immediate vicinity.
Putin, however, declared the complete capture of the city.
