Belarus remains a major supplier of expensive European cars to Russia
Despite a reduction in the import of passenger cars from third countries to Russia via Belarus, its volumes still remain significant. According to the words of Sergey Tselikov, founder of the Russian analytical agency "Autostat", in the first eight months of 2026, 16.4 thousand imported passenger cars, predominantly premium brands, entered the Russian market via Belarus.
Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of such cars decreased by 8.4%. A significant part of the imports consisted of new cars, predominantly expensive European premium brand crossovers.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was the most popular among them — 819 such cars entered Russia via Belarus. This was followed by BMW X5 — 564 cars, Land Rover Range Rover — 539, BMW X7 — 394, and Porsche Cayenne — 368.
According to "Autostat" calculations, over 20% of new BMW cars imported into Russia transited through Belarus. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan became the main supplier of new BMWs to the Russian market, accounting for 40% of the imports of this brand.
As for used cars, mainly mass-market brands like Peugeot, Volkswagen, and Renault are supplied from Belarus to Russia. About half of these cars have diesel engines, and the power of 80% of used cars does not exceed 160 horsepower.
Throughout 2025, 17.1 thousand new passenger cars from third countries were imported from Belarus to Russia. At that time, this accounted for about 10% of the Russian new car market.
