Kremlin stated it is not discussing the release of political prisoners with the USA
It was previously reported that John Cole initiated the release of Russian political prisoners.

"We categorically deny the existence of any political prisoners and consider such a framing of the issue absolutely inappropriate," Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters, writes the BBC.
According to him, the Kremlin has not discussed and "could not discuss" the possibility of releasing a number of political prisoners from Russian prisons in exchange for Washington lifting sanctions.
At the same time, he said that Russian special services "continue regular contacts" with Washington regarding "various prisoner exchanges."
Earlier, The Atlantic reported that US President Donald Trump approved the idea of easing sanctions against Russia in exchange for the release of political prisoners. According to the publication, Trump's special envoy for Eastern Europe, John Cole, put forward this initiative.
"The implementation of this plan would open up opportunities for the US to conclude lucrative deals concerning Russian oil, diesel fuel, rare earth metals, and other raw materials. In addition, the release of prisoners on humanitarian grounds could strengthen Trump's position in the race for the much-desired Nobel Peace Prize," wrote The Atlantic journalist Simon Shuster.
