US First Lady Melania Trump announced on the social network X that a ceasefire regime began operating today at 4 AM Minsk time in Oleshky, Kherson region, which is occupied by Russian troops.

According to Melania Trump, the truce was initially planned for October 29, but its start was moved up by two days to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of vital humanitarian aid. The silence regime will be in effect until November 1, inclusive.
Melania Trump also stated that the truce zone was expanded beyond Oleshky to other territories of the Kherson region. This is intended to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian convoys.
Residents of occupied Oleshky had been seeking evacuation for over a year. During this time, the city was almost completely cut off from the outside world: electricity disappeared, and there was a shortage of food and medicine. According to volunteers, there have been known cases of people dying from starvation. Around two thousand people remain in the city, including almost fifty children.
On October 23, Russia and Ukraine, with the mediation of Melania Trump, agreed on a local truce in Oleshky. Earlier, the European Commission and Pope Leo XIV called on Russia to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to the city and to give residents the opportunity to leave.
