Russia built a large base on the border with Ukraine for strikes against it in six weeks
Russia has almost completed the construction of a new large base for launching jet drones near the border with Ukraine in just six weeks. This was reported by Reuters agency, which analyzed satellite images.

According to satellite images from Planet Labs and Airbus companies, on August 31, the site of the future base in Rostov Oblast, a few kilometers from Millerovo airbase, was an empty field. The 31st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment is stationed at the airbase. Construction began the very next day, and by October 14, a complex covering almost one square kilometer had appeared there.
Mike Monnik, founder of the private intelligence company DroneSec, believes that the base is intended for launching the newest Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet drones. Eight launch pads are visible in the images in the western part of the complex.
According to the expert's assessment, the base will potentially be able to ensure the launch of about 100 jet drones per day. It is expected that the complex will be fully operational within a few weeks.
It is likely that the new base, as well as Millerovo airbase itself, will be covered by an air defense system. This could complicate attempts by Ukrainian forces to attack the facility with drones, DroneSec believes.
In recent months, Russia has been actively using jet drones for strikes on Ukraine. Compared to conventional drones, they have a significantly greater flight range and speed. They are harder to shoot down because they move too fast for specialized interceptors with electric motors.
