Alexander Lukashenka instructed to study the possibility of using modern trams in the Minsk Metro. He raised this question on October 23 during a visit to the 'Belkommunmash' holding company, BelTA writes .

Lukashenka was shown samples of domestic tram equipment, including a three-section low-floor tram, which is manufactured for Chelyabinsk. In this Russian city, a hybrid metro-tram system is being developed, which combines conventional tram tracks and underground tunnels.
The politician proposed studying whether such equipment could be used in the Belarusian metro after the necessary modifications. According to him, this could help replace imported products with domestic ones.
He also noted that the construction of underground metro lines is significantly more expensive than using ground transport. Therefore, in his opinion, where possible, transport routes should be brought to the surface and costs should be taken into account.
'Belkommunmash' produces multi-section trams which, presumably, could be used instead of metro trains purchased abroad. Lukashenka also drew attention to the need for such transport for connecting with the airport and Minsk's satellite towns.
The question of the possibility of using trams in the metro system has been instructed to be studied in the first half of 2027. This task should be undertaken by the relevant minister and deputy prime minister, together with heads of enterprises, as well as the Chairman of the Council of the Republic and Lukashenka's authorized representative in Minsk, Natalya Kochanova.
Minister of Industry Andrei Kuznetsov reported that the shown three-section tram has a length of 28 meters. If necessary, it can be extended twofold — up to 56 meters. The possibility of using such equipment depends on the railway line infrastructure. Another feature of the tram is doors on both sides of the carriage.
