"Kochanava is responsible." Lukashenka ordered to launch a tram from Novopolotsk to Polotsk
Alexander Lukashenka supported the proposal to connect Polotsk and Novopolotsk by tram lines. He instructed to calculate the cost of the project and determine the terms of its implementation. The politician stated this on October 23 during a visit to the "Belkommunmash" holding in Minsk.

The initiative for an intercity tram connection was put forward by the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalia Kochanava. According to her, tram tracks should be extended from Novopolotsk to Polotsk so that residents can travel between the cities, including employees of the "Naftan" enterprise.
The project will require laying approximately 10 more kilometers of tram tracks.
"Good, let's connect them. It's not much. We need to plan this and do it while we can. But precisely define: these are the terms, this is what needs to be done. Kochanava is responsible," Lukashenka stated.

He added that if the project is needed, it should be implemented quickly, and the necessary funds should be calculated.
Lukashenka also spoke in favor of wider use of trams in Belarus's public transport system. Currently, tram connections, dating back to Soviet times, operate in only four cities in the country: Minsk, Vitebsk, Mozyr, and Novopolotsk. According to Lukashenka, if this type of transport has prospects, its development will be gradually expanded.
In addition, he mentioned the need to establish fast and convenient transport connections between Minsk and its satellite cities. Some of them do not yet have rail links with the capital. Trams could also be used to connect such settlements.
It should be noted that the need for a high-speed tram from Minsk, for example, to the satellite city of Lahojsk, has been discussed for almost two decades, including at Lukashenka's level, but this has never yielded any practical results so far.
