Meghan Markle's father accused of child sexual abuse. She didn't remain silent
The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle stated that she once decided to stop communicating with her father, Thomas Markle Sr., and did not allow him to contact her children because she wanted to protect them. Her statement came against the backdrop of accusations against her father of child sexual abuse, reported by British media, writes The Independent.

According to The Sun tabloid, Meghan's half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. claimed to have found a collection of child sexual abuse images in his father's former residence in the Philippines. Thomas Markle Sr. himself, in a comment to the Daily Mail, dismissed the accusations, stating that he does not possess such images and called them "sick lies."
Meghan revealed that law enforcement contacted her back in 2018 after receiving a letter accusing her father of crimes.
"It contained disturbing and horrifying accusations against my father, and I was assured they would be investigated," the Duchess stated.
She also expressed support for children who may have suffered and emphasized her commitment to justice and the protection of minors. Meghan hopes that the new circumstances will help the public better understand the reasons for her estrangement from her father.
As The Independent writes, Meghan's relationship with her father deteriorated even before her wedding to British Prince Harry in May 2018. Thomas Markle did not attend the ceremony, allegedly due to health issues and a dispute over photographs which, according to media reports, he had staged with paparazzi.
After the wedding, Thomas repeatedly gave interviews to British media, talking about the conflict with his daughter and attempts to re-establish contact with her. In 2019, the Mail on Sunday newspaper published a private letter from Meghan to her father. Following this, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex initiated legal proceedings against the publication.
In the following years, Thomas Markle publicly called on his daughter to allow him to see his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. In December 2025, while he was in a hospital in the Philippines and underwent a leg amputation, Meghan's representative announced that she had sent her father a letter.
The Duchess's current statement marks another stage in the long-standing conflict, which has been accompanied by public accusations, interviews, and legal disputes.
"My most sincere hope is that justice will be fully served, and the safety and protection of innocent children will remain the priority," Meghan Markle noted.
In August, it became known that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to return to the UK six years after stepping down from royal duties. It was reported that they might leave their estate in California and settle in a private house near London, and their children will start attending one of the British schools from September.
However, there are no indications that the couple intends to return to performing duties as members of the British royal family. Their representatives have not officially commented on this information.
