KGB Denies Possession of Kavaliou's Jail Notes

The Committee for State Security (KGB) does not have the notes made by Uladzislau Kavaliou during his stay in the KGB jail, Aliaksandr Antanovich, spokesman for the law enforcement agency, told BelaPAN.

Shortly after the young man was executed over the April 2011 subway bombing, his mother petitioned the KGB to give her Mr. Kavaliou's jail notes.

The administration of the KGB jail sent the man's belongings to Liubou Kavaliova — the mother of by mail after his execution. However, a yellow folder, which had contained the notes made by Mr. Kavalyou during the trial and afterward, was empty. “Ulad had asked [me] very strongly to keep these notes,” the woman said.

She suggested that the notes were kept by the KGB because they could contain information about her son's mistreatment.
